NXT Takeover: WarGames 2019 Preview And Predictions

Welcome one and all to my preview and predictions blog for the upcoming NXT Takeover event, WarGames. As of yet only 3 matches have been announced for the event, hopefully at least a couple more will be confirmed on Wednesday when NXT is live. When the match card is finalised I will update this post. It is an interesting time for WWE for a number of reasons but, most people can agree that NXT is the real positive aspect of WWE at the moment. NXT will also be represented at Survivor Series the following night so there might be more than a little interference from RAW and Smackdown competitors throughout WarGames.

As with all of my posts if you have any comments or feedback leave a comment in the section below or by following me on Twitter and Instagram. As always I will talk about the matches in no particular order.

Christmas is on the way and it's always a struggle to buy people gifts. If you're significant other, friend or anyone else for that matter love all things Funko then Pop In A Box is the place for you. Exclusives, subscription boxes and even LoungeFly bags are available for a pretty decent price. If you follow my exclusive LINK you'll get money off of your first order.

1. Matt Riddle Vs. Finn Balor: This match was added last week and meant that Matt Riddle was removed from Team Ciampa. Finn Balor returned to NXT a number of weeks ago and he has brought a new darker edge with him. If I was honest I was looking for Finn Balor to make this character change for a little while. The good guy, inoffensive character that Balor had been portraying since his arrival in WWE had become a little on the stale side and this reinvention of sorts has done wonders for Balor. Matt Riddle is hard to dislike, even when he is poking fun at some of the "Legends" that keep cropping up it's hard not to like him. Riddle is still finding his feet in the NXT landscape and I think this match may be his arrival into the main event picture. This will be a great match between two of the top talent without a championship in NXT. There will be a lot of hard hitting style action from both sides with Balor utilising his new found dark side to perhaps gain the upper hand. I think Balor may come out with the win but, I think this rivalry will continue into 2020.

2. Women's WarGames Match: Team Baszler Vs. Team Ripley: This match has been built well and has done well in incorporating existing feuds into the mix. Shayna Baszler has been such a dominating champion over the past couple of years since her arrival in NXT. If there is anyone who can match up with Baszler it is Rhea Ripley, someone who has had a fantastic 2019 and has really built a reputation for herself. The feud between Io Shirai and Candice LeRae could be an important part of this match as they may end up taking each other out. The two X Factors in this match are Mia Yim and Kay Lee Ray. Both Yim and Ray are both just establishing their positions in NXT and WWE and this could be a coming out party for both. The addition of Tegan Nox and Bianca Belair will bring some great moments too. I am interested how this match will go and what factors may affect the outcome. I think this may be match of the year candidate when all is said and done. With that being said I think the dominant Team Baszler will come out on top on the way to Survivor Series and be the representatives for the black and yellow brand.

3. Men's WarGames Match: The Undisputed Era Vs. Team Ciampa: The Undisputed Era fulfilled the prophecy laid out at the start of the year that they would be draped in gold, with all four members of the team holding a championship. They have been dominant this year as a whole but, that may change on Saturday night if Tommaso Ciampa has anything to do with it. Ciampa still doesn't have a final man for his team but, if the rumours are true Triple H may be lacing his boots up to join in and that may prove the deciding factor. There are some incredible competitors in this match just waiting to show what they are made of, none more so than Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic, who have had some incredible matches with each other in the past months. This will be an incredible match and, like the women's match, will more than likely prove to be a match of the year candidate. I think The Undisputed Era may come out with the win and head to Survivor Series to represent NXT in the men's elimination match.

4. Pete Dunne Vs. Killian Dain Vs. Damian Priest: This match recently and this has historic consequences. The winner of this match will take on Adam Cole for the NXT Championship at Survivor Series, the first time an NXT Championship will be defended outside of NXT. This feud has been bubbling for a little while and is a great display of the variety of talent on offer in NXT. Pete Dunne has made the transition to the states and seems to be picking up momentum. Killian Dain has proven just how great he is since his return to NXT and will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in the next year or so. Damian Priest has impressed me a lot since his arrival as I hadn't seen much of him in ROH. This will be a great match that might have a lot of people talking. I think that Pete Dunne may come out with the win and make his way to Survivor Series.
