NXT Takeover: Chicago Preview And Predictions

Welcome one and all to my preview and predictions blog for the upcoming "NXT Takeover: Chicago" live special that will take place on the "WWE Network" this Saturday night. Before I begin I would like to encourage you to check out my recent posts which include talking about the upcoming "Halloween" and "The Nun" movies and also talking about the fantastic "Funko" documentary, "Making Fun". As always if you have any comments or feedback leave a comment in the section below or by following me on "Twitter" and "Instagram".

There isn't a huge card for "Takeover: Chicago" but, that doesn't hurt the show. Each match on the card is an important match. There are a couple of names that I would have liked to have seen on the card: Adam Cole isn't on the card nor is Pete Dunne. The reason for this is probably due to the upcoming show in the "Royal Albert Hall". EC3 and War Raiders are both notable absences but, this is more than likely due to time constraints.

1. NXT Tag Team Championship: The Undisputed Era (C) Vs. Danny Burch And Oney Lorcan: Whilst I'm not opposed to Burch and Lorcan getting a shot at the tag team championships I find it strange that with the wealth of teams in the division that they get a shot instead of The Mighty or War Raiders. It makes sense that Burch and Lorcan are getting the championship opportunity due to the current story line between the two teams. The thrown together team of Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly are proving to be a great combination and are really doing great things with the championships. This could prove a hard hitting affair with a lot of ground work and submission. I have a funny feeling Adam Cole will prove the decisive factor in this match and will help the Undisputed Era retain the championships.

2. Ricochet Vs. The Velveteen Dream: Of all the matches on the card this is the match that I am looking forward to seeing the most. The way that this match has been built is on a strange respect for one and other. Ricochet was arguably the hottest free agent to come to "NXT" and most would have expected him to become a champion straight off the bat. The way that he is being built is, in my opinion, is fantastic. The Velveteen Dream is arguably one of the best talents in "NXT" today and given a few more years will be one of the top talents in all of "WWE". This will be a spectacle match that will steal the show. This will, hopefully, be the coming out party for both men that will take them to the next level. Who knows we might get a rematch next year between these two for the "NXT" championship.

3. NXT Women's Championship: Shayna Baszler (C) Vs. Nikki Cross: When the rest of Sanity were called up to "Smackdown Live" I felt a little sorry for Nikki Cross not going up too. Fast forward a few months and things seem  to have worked out pretty well for Cross as she is now getting her fair shot at the "NXT" women's championship. Shayna Baszler really has made the best of her situation. She has become one of the best heel characters, not just in the women's division but, in "NXT" in general. This match will be a great brawl that will truly highlight how great these two talents are. I feel that Dakota Kai may have a part to play in Baszler retaining either by deliberately or inadvertently costing Cross the win.

4. Street Fight: Johnny Gargano Vs. Tommaso Ciampa: One of, if not the best, rivalries in "NXT" history has been between Gargano and Ciampa. Both men have really run with this massive opportunity and have proven that there doesn't have to be a championship for a match to be important. These two had one of the most intense matches in "NXT" history at "Takeover: New Orleans" and this match promises to be just as brutal. I really can't pick a winner for this match as the win or loss will do nothing harmful to either man. If I had to pick a winner I would most likely pick Ciampa to come out on top and then continue on into the main event.

5. NXT Championship: Alister Black (C) Vs. Lars Sullivan: This is a strange match to headline a live special. Black has been a great champion but, I feel that even as champion he is not the focal point of the brand which is a shame as he is an incredible worker. Lars Sullivan has been thrust into the main event picture extremely quickly. This is not to say that he's not a good worker because he is a great unstoppable monster character. This might be a little underwhelming a match for the championship. I would love to be proven wrong and who knows this may be the match of the night. I fully expect Black to retain and hand Sullivan his first major loss.
