If you're like me you love everything pop culture related and for a long time I've also been an avid toy collector. In recent years there has been a collectable popping up seemingly everywhere and offering something for everyone: The "Funko Pop". Boasting a huge catalogue of properties from "A Nightmare On Elm Street" to "The Golden Girls", "Funko" is hardly an overnight sensation and the new documentary "Making Fun: The Story Of Funko" tells the story of one of the biggest toy and collectable company in the world.
"Making Fun" is a fantastic show piece for this great company. Telling the story of the humble beginnings of toy collectors who wanted to make toys that they love. Starting out making bobble heads and working out of a family home to setting up a brand new superstore and base of operation in the "Funko" home town of Everett, Washington the story follows founder Mike Becker's story of passion for pop culture and toy making and the dedicated fan base that made "Funko" into one the biggest an most recognisable brands in the world.
I feel a little biased when I say I really enjoyed this film, I am a huge "Funko" fan with a rather modest collection in comparison to some of the fantastic "Funko" collector family. I loved the story of Mike Becker and his creation of a yearly fan event. You truly get the idea that this is a company that really caters for their fan base and the family feel of the collector community. The interviews with Funko employees, including current CEO Brian Mariotti, show that the company is in great hands as they all seem to be dedicated to creating something for everyone. It's the interviews with the fan community that really make this a great film. From famous faces such as Alice Cooper, Tony Hawk and Kevin Smith to boxers to paediatricians everyone speaks with such a fondness and admiration for "Funko".
Overall "Making Fun: The Of Funko"is just a joy to watch that will not only leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling but, also making you want to have every one of the numerous creations in the back catalogue of "Funko".
"Making Fun: The Story Of Funko" is available to stream on "Netflix" now.
