Welcome one and all to my preview and predictions blog for this Sundays "RAW" exclusive live event "Great Balls Of Fire". Despite the terrible name and strange concept, the final card for "GBOF" as it will be called as I can't take the full name seriously, is pretty great. Whilst "Smackdown Live" has had a great run of late the "RAW" roster has so much more noteworthy talent. As always I will talk about the matches in no particular order. Before I begin I would remind you, as always, if you have any comments or thoughts on anything I've said leave a comment below.
1. Pre Show Match: WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Neville (C) Vs. Akira Tozawa: Whilst I know any match on a live event is great for a talent, the fact that this match is on the pre show is a shame to both men. "205 Live" has a wealth of talent and has some great feuds happening at the moment but, for some reason, something doesn't seem to be connecting with the vast majority of the "WWE Universe". Neville has done wonders to not only his career but, for the Cruiserweight division in general. He has had a great run of matches that have transcended the attitudes of what people think the "205 Live" show should have been. Akira Tozawa is finally getting the attention he deserves and putting him in the "Titus Brand" will do great for his character. This match should be a great contest full of quick action and strikes for days. Whilst I would like to see Tozawa win the championship I think Neville will retain.
2. Enzo Amore Vs. Big Cass: I honestly thought that "Enzo and Cass" would get at least one run with the tag team championship before splitting but, I guess creative had different ideas and this is the match we have been left with. This match has been built pretty well with Cass being pushed as the future "Big Guy" especially with Big Show getting involved in this whole story line. I'm not sure how this one will go. I would hope that this will not be the glorified squash match but, the way in which Cass has been pushed would suggest that it might. I could also see Big Show get involved, perhaps costing Cass this match. I'm not really looking forward to this match but, I have been pleasantly surprised before.
3. WWE Intercontinental Championship: The Miz (C) Vs. Dean Ambrose: This match shows that mediocre feuds can transcend shows. I feel like The Miz has really only had two opponents in the past two years; one being Dolph Ziggler and the other being Dean Ambrose. I suppose the only thing difference with this match is that The Miz now has his "Miztorage" at his side which is a bit of a waste of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel but, "hey at least they're on TV right ?" The problem with both men is that they are talented enough and can have great matches with other people it just seems that creative doesn't know what to do with either. This one could go either way but, fully expect Dallas and Axel to get involved and most likely cos Ambrose the match.
4. RAW Womens Championship: Alexa Bliss (C) Vs. Sasha Banks: This one could be a real show stopper. I really wasn't the biggest fan of either upon their arrival to the main roster but, both have proven that they are fantastic talents. Alexa is a fantastic heel so much so I can't really remember her as being anything but. Sasha has been in a little bit of a rut since the "Superstar Shake Up", floundering about in mid card position. I can't really see Alexa losing the championship in the near future however, if Sasha does win the championship a feud with Bayley with Sasha in the heel role could be great. All that being said this match will be fantastic.
5. RAW Tag Team Championship 30 Minute Ironman Match: Cesaro And Sheamus Vs. The Hardys: This is a unusual match stipulation for a live special with such a stacked card. This has been a great feud that has worked wonders for Cesaro and Sheamus, pushing them to the forefront and selling them as a team instead of two individuals. I feel a little sorry for The Hardys, all anyone speaks about is whether they're going back to the "Broken Universe" and not about how great they have been since their shock return. This will be a great back and forth match with some highlight worthy spots. I think this might be the push into singles runs for The Hardys and I for one would welcome it. I would love to see a Cesaro and Sheamus Vs. Anderson And Gallows feud going forward so perhaps a little run in at the end may happen.
6. Seth Rollins Vs. Bray Wyatt: This is a strange feud for two of the top talents on the "RAW" roster. The problem with both is that they don't really fit in with any other feud but, both deserve to be on TV every week. Bray Wyatt is one of, if not, my favourite character on "WWE" television at the moment but, seems to get a great push only to have to rug pulled from under his feet. Seth Rollins problem is that the "Universal Championship" is not on TV full time and thus he isn't in the championship picture on a regular basis like he has been. That't not to say that both men don't deserve to be. This will be a hard hitting affair with Rollins most likely to come out on top. I would like to see where this feud will go in the future.
7. Ambulance Match: Roman Reigns Vs. Braun Strowman: When Strowman got injured a few months ago the "WWE Universe" let out a collective groan. This was a great feud between two of the more divisive personalities on "WWE" television. I really feel Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns could both be credible heels and having them together for longer could go one of two ways. The most likely is that they continue down the route they are with Strowman being the go to favourite for the majority that detest Reigns. The other option would be for Reigns to be turned and made to look just as bad as everyone thinks he is, cheating and dodging his way to wins and then rubbing it in the collective universes face. I could really see Reigns come out with a surprise win thanks to some form of interference.
8. WWE Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (C) Vs. Samoa Joe: The "Dream Match" for the new generation has come to pass a lot earlier than I really thought it would. I have loved the way in which this match has been built. Joe has been made to look like a credible threat to Lesnar, as he should. This one will be a hard hitting affair that hopefully will last a little longer than the previous few Lesnar matches. Whilst this will attract a huge audience I really can't see Lensar losing the "Universal Championship" before "Wrestlemania" next year. This match will hopefully also set up a rematch at "Summerslam" next month.
enjoy the show and as always leave a comment below.
