Welcome one and all to my preview and prediction blog for the upcoming "WWE" live event, "Battleground". This event is a "Smackdown Live" exclusive event and, in my honest opinion, is probably the weakest event yet. As always if you have any comments or anything to add leave a comment below or follow me on social media by following one of the links on my home page.
As I mentioned previously I'm not too sure about "Battleground", sure there are some great matches in there but there are a couple I don't hold much hope out for including the "WWE" championship match. As with every preview blog I will talk about the matches in no particular order.
1. Pre Show Match: Tye Dillinger Vs. Aiden English: This match is an odd one for me. I understand that there needs to be an under card feud or two but, this one has been simmering away so slowly I almost forgot it was a thing. Tye Dillinger came up to the main roster with a lot of promise yet has been a little bit of a damp squib. Aiden English has a lot of potential but, is being under utilised. I don't really know what a loss for either would do but, if I had to pick a winner, I would say Tye Dillinger.
2. Sami Zayn Vs. Mike Kanellis: This has been a great little feud for these two incredibly talented workers. It was only a matter of time that Mike Bennett came to the "WWE" and thankfully he didn't go to "NXT" as I feel he would have been lost in the shuffle. Sami Zayn is kind of floundering a little bit since coming the "The Land Of Opportunity", which is a shame because he has a wealth of talent and could be a great "United States" Champion. This one will be a great back and forth between the two and I expect Maria to get involved. Look for the now Mike Kanellis to get the win.
3. Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship: The Usos (C) Vs. The New Day: As I've mentioned when talking about previous "Smackdown Live" live events the tag team division, whilst not lacking in some great talent, has almost been forgotten about. The Usos have been champions for a while now yet have really not represented the division. The New Day have done a little since the move over from "RAW" mainly due to Kofi's injury. If you haven't watched the rap battle from a couple of weeks ago you really should as this showed how entertaining both teams are. This should be a great match with a lot of suspect things happening that may cause The New Day becoming 3 time tag champions. This one could steal the show.
4. Flag Match: John Cena Vs. Rusev: Big Match John" is back, for how long who knows ? Rusev has been absent from TV since his move over from "RAW" which is a blessing for his wife, Lana, as she has really been able to gain a little notoriety on her own. This is a really strange match for both as I feel like it serves as filler for the rest of the show, mainly to sell the "battleground" them of the show. I'm not really sure how this one will go. The obvious result would be a win for Cena as the "American hero" which, while logical, would be a shame as I feel Rusev is one of the better "heel" talents in the company.
5. Fatal 5 Way: Charlotte Flair Vs. Becky Lynch Vs. Natalya Vs. Tamina Vs. Lana: This match is a match to determine the number one contender for the "Smackdown Live" women's championship match which will take place at "Summerslam". There seems to be something weird happening on "Smackdown Live" with respect to the championship pictures. Naomi is the champion of the women's division yet is not on the card. This is selling her short which, in my opinion, is the wrong thing to do as it makes her look weak. This match could have taken place on "Smackdown Live" or hell even, by adding Naomi into the match, could have been a great "6 Pack Challenge" match for the championship. I can't see a decisive winner in this match as all involved are more than deserving of a shot. I think its more than likely Charlotte Flair will come out on top to set up a blockbuster match for "Summerslam".
6. Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Baron Corbin: This match has been built really well over a number of weeks with both men getting the exposure on TV that they deserve. Nakamura has really proven himself to be the star that he is by coming to "Smackdown Live" by not winning a championship yet being one of the top 3 guys on the show, and let's face it as much as it's being forced neither Jinder nor Randy are top guys on the show. Baron Corbin continues to prove everyone wrong by being a great anti hero "heel". I was on the fence about Corbin when I saw him in "NXT" but, as he continues to grow withing the "WWE" he really has proven he's as good as he says he is. This should be hard hitting and filled with great spots. I think that Corbin will come out on top and set up another match between the two at "Summerslam"
7. WWE US Championship: AJ Styles (C) Vs. Kevin Owens: A lot of people were shocked at the news that Styles won the "United States" championship at "Madison Square Garden" a month or so ago but, I really feel that this was a great idea. As a kid I remember "Diesel" beating Bob Backlund for the "WWE" championship on a house show and that was cool as it became a noteworthy event. The same can be said for this match, people are talking about the fact that the title change happened more than if it had happened at "Battleground" doing great things for both men and the "United States" championship. This should be a much more entertaining match than the main event, and that's not me talking as a mark it's reality. This should be a fantastic wrestling match between the top two guys on "Smackdown Live"
8. WWE Championship Punjabi Prison Match: Jinder Mahal (C) Vs. Randy Orton: I'm really underwhelmed by this match. I get that Jinder is working hard and probably deserves an opportunity but, this feud has been really dull and not really deserving of the "WWE" championship. This should be a good enough match but, the fans really deserve more. I can't really see Randy Orton winning this match but, if he does there could be a cash in by Corbin setting up a match between the two at "Summerslam".
Thanks for reading and enjoy the show.
