Man Of Steel Review

This Blog Will NOT Contain Spoilers

To Say I enjoyed Man Of Steel would be an understatement. I feel that I have been waiting for a very long time for the release of Man Of Steel, and after what seems like 100 trailers I finally got to see Man Of Steel
The story was pretty well written, if not a little bit disjointed, by that I mean the film felt like 3 films in one with the origin story being the first, the wanderer Clark Kent being the second and the invasion of Zod being the third. Whilst I appreciate that doing three separate films for each part would be infeasible and also a little on the slow side. Each part of the story have their merits. The origin on Krypton was stunning. The CGI effects were brilliant. Whilst the Krypton in Man Of Steel is not very close to any comic book version on Krypton it was a very cool look to the mythical doomed planet. The second part seemed to be over far too quickly. It was implied, but rarely seen, that Clark was tortured between the man earth wanted and the man he was soon to become. The events that shape the basis for Clark becoming Superman were passed over quite quickly which could be seen positively in the sense that the event was not dragged out. The final part, the invasion of Zod and the Kryptonians was fantastic. The film didn't feel so much as a superhero film, but an alien invasion film with superhero elements. The action sequences were brilliantly shot, with an almost hand held look.
The casting of Henry Cavill was a great move, at parts he looked a lot like Christopher Reeve. He embodied the role of Superman better than Brandon Routh ever did. Amy Adams was just fine as Lois Lane, she wasn't good nor was she bad. The feisty side of the Lois Lane character came out in dribs and drabs. Adams just seemed a little too much of a damsel to be Lois Lane.
The fan boy in me liked the little nods to the wider DC universe, for example the LexCorp building under construction seen during the fight between Zod and Superman and also the Wayne Enterprise satellite that features in the fight scene too.
Overall I really enjoyed Man Of Steel, which hopefully has launched a DC film series in the same vain as the Marvel series. David S. Goyer has gone on record saying that there might be a Justice League film and with sequel to Man Of Steel already confirmed with Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer both coming back it is an exciting time to be a DC Comics fan:

  2. Thanks for the feedback. I am now really interested to see where they take the series and what Superman regulars will pop up. I would personally like to see Brainiac.
