From the very first time I saw a trailer for this film I was beyond excited. Having watched all of the previous Alien films and been a fan of the original 2 films (and the 3rd in some ways) I can't say that I was too curious of how it all began as I feel prequels sometimes tarnish an already stellar film or series of films. From the get go this film was stunningly shot. The landscape wide shots were simply beautiful. The visual effects of otherworldly creatures and settings were equally as brilliant, but what do people expect from a film produced by Ridley Scott and co written By Damon Lindelof (Lost) ?
More than the brilliance of the setting, the acting was fantastic throughout. Noomi Rapace reinvents herself once again. Michael Fassbender is great. He walks the line between fascinating and creepy perfectly, he also reminds me of an evil Thunderbird. Other strong characters are Janek, played by Idris Elba and Charlize Theron who plays Meredith Vickers. The standout performances have to be from Rafe Spall and Sean Harris Who play Milburn and Fifield. From the first moment the two characters are on screen the chemistry between the two is noticeable.
The plot of the story becomes confusing slightly around the middle of the film, this might have been me simply being dense, but I did have to try and remember back to earlier parts of the film when I was unsure what was happening. This film is magnificent and I have no doubt in my mind that it will do particularly well at the box office and in it's eventual release onto DVD and Blu Ray formats. This film is well worth the ticket price and please do not be worried about seeing the previous Alien films as you don't have to go in with much prior knowledge other than there were previous films.
