NXT Takeover:Toronto Preview And Predictions

Welcome one and all to my preview and predictions blog for the upcoming NXT Takeover event which is set to take place this Saturday night in Toronto. As always if you have any comments or feedback leave a comment in the section below or by following me on Twitter and Instagram.

It's a great time to be a wrestling fan. There is so much content to choose from but, I feel that the WWE and in particular the NXT still has the biggest audience whether the fans want to admit it or not. I love the Takeover events as the card has very few matches but, they all mean something. Compare this to Summerslam where there are no fewer than 10 matches on the card which is just far too many. As always I will write about the matches in no particular order.

1. Candice LaRae Vs. Io Shirai: Of the two competitors in this match I honestly thought it might have been LaRae that turned on Shirai and not the other way round. I am actually excited to see what happens with Shirai now that she has this change of attitude. I think more than anything this match will be a great showing for two of the overlooked members of the women's division. This match will be full of drama and will hopefully be just as good as the women's championship match This will be a great back and forth with the two having very contrasting styles. I think that Shirai will come out on top in this match but, look for this match to continue on past this Saturday.

2. NXT North American Championship: The Velveteen Dream (C) Vs. Roderick Strong Vs. Pete Dunne: This is the match that I am most looking forward to. The Velveteen Dream has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years and has really transcended the championship that he holds. Roderick Strong has flown a little under the radar for the past year or so when his other team mates have been winning championship matches. That's not to say Strong hasn't been having great matches I just think there hasn't been a feud for him, until now. It looks like Pete Dunne may be in NXT for a while and a feud with Strong would be extremely entertaining. This match, like the LaRae and Shirai, is a great contrast in styles with each having their own merits. This could be the match of the night, exceeding the NXT Championship match, and really bringing all 3 into the conversation for a shot at Adam Cole. I can't really pick a winner but, purely from a fans point of view I would love to see Dunne come out with the win.

3. NXT Women's Championship: Shayna Baszler (C) Vs. Mia Yim: Baszler has had one of the hottest runs as champion since Asuka and she has arguably had some of the best women's matches in recent memory. Mia Yim has come into NXT with a lot of support and popularity behind her and from the minute she arrived has proven that she has been overlooked by every company she has worked for. This will be more than a coming out party for Yim, this will be a match that proves that not only NXT but, the WWE has moved on with regards to women's wrestling. This match will be hard hitting and be full of submissions. As much as I would love to see Baszler as champion for a little while longer I think this might be Yim's time to shine.

4. NXT Tag Team Championship: The Street Profits (C) Vs. The Undisputed Era: The Street Profits are a little underwhelming as champions. Sure they're on RAW every week being funny but, they've not really had more than a couple of matches on NXT since winning the ladder match at Takeover 25. Fish and O'Reilly haven't really had many matches together on NXT TV for a good while but, they are a proven commodity and are looking to get themselves back at the top of the division. This should be a great match for both teams with a great mix of styles. Whilst I like The Street Profits I think that The Undisputed Era may fulfil their prophecy and hold all the gold.

5. NXT Championship 2 Out Of 3 Falls: Adam Cole (C) Vs. Johnny Gargano: Whilst I'm not complaining I feel like I've seen this match far too many times, so hopefully this will be the culmination of their feud. I love the gimmick of the 2 out of 3 falls with different rules for each fall as it allows for a lot of different factors to come into play. Adam Cole has become one of the best heels in NXT history and has had a great face in Johnny Gargano to bounce off of. This should be a great match with the other members of The Undisputed Era coming into play during the extreme rules fall. I honestly can't see Gargano regaining the NXT Championship any time soon and I think The Era will come out with all of the gold at the end of Takeover, Adam Cole for the win.
