NXT: Takeover is always a fantastic show to watch and for the second year in a row a WarGames match becomes the focal point of the special. There is a very sparse card, only 4 matches, and there is a lot of talent missing from the card. I honestly thought there might be a NXT UK brand match to highlight the newly established division. Lacey Evans and Bianca Belair are both up and coming stars on the brand that are missing as well as The Mighty, Keith Lee, Matt Riddle and EC3 are all noticeable absentees too. As always I will talk about the matches in no particular order.
1. NXT Championship: Tomasso Ciampa (C) Vs. The Velveteen Dream: Tomasso Ciampa was thrust into the main event role after Aleister Black was injured and could no defend the championship a few months ago and boy did he run with the opportunity. Ciampa has proven not only how great a wrestler he is but, how great a character he can be given the time and opportunity. When you talk about taking time and opportunity and using it wisely The Velveteen Dream has to be at the top of the list. Dream has to be one of the most exciting and different superstars in the entire WWE and has gained a cult like following over the past year or so. This match has been built in a rather low key way but, could prove to really steal the show. This should be a great mix of the hard hitting style of Ciampa and the impressive strength of Dream. Whilst I Love The Velveteen Dream I can't see where the championship would place him. As much as it pains me I think Ciampa will retain.
2. NXT Women's Championship: Shayna Baszler (C) Vs. Kairi Sane: To say the win of Shayna Baszler at last months Evolution live special was a shock win would be a bit of a over exaggeration. Kairi Sanes run as champion was a little bit under whelming to say the least but, with that being said Baszler and Sane really bring the best out in each other. Baszler has gone from strength to strength in a really quick fashion and has proven her value when she became the only 2 time women's champion in NXT history. This match will be a great match with a lot of great spots throughout. I think Baszler will retain and hopefully enter into a different feud perhaps with one of the many great talents in the NXT women's division.
3. Aleister Black Vs. Johnny Gargano: This has been an interesting feud to say the least. Johnny Gargano was revealed to be the attacker and I really wasn't surprised. There has been a tease of a heel turn by Gargano for a number of months and I for one would love to see what he can do with this new change of heart. Aleister Black returned a few weeks ago and has set his sights on gaining a bit of revenge on Gargano rather than regaining the NXT Championship. This should be a great match filled with a lot of drama. I think this may be the final step in the transformation of Gargano into a full fledged heel so I think he may win the match with help from Candice LeRae. If The Velveteen Dream wins the NXT championship I would love to see a rematch between Dream and Black after this story line is done.
WarGames Match: The Undisputed Era Vs. War Raiders, Pete Dunne And Ricochet: For the second year in a row WarGames has made an appearance and if the first match was anything to go by this one will be just as entertaining. The Undisputed Era have the upper hand on paper, winning the first WarGames match last year and they've been on a bit of a roll as of late. War Raiders, Ricochet and Pete Dunne are, on the surface, a bit of a thrown together team and whilst that may be true I think this allows for so many factors to come into play. Dunne and Ricochet had a mini feud recently and The Undisputed Era could exploit the rivalry causing a rift amongst their opponents. This will undoubtedly be the highlight match of the night and I think the Undisputed Era might come out with the win.
