Welcome one and all to my preview and predictions blog for "NXT Takeover:Brooklyn 3" which takes place this Saturday in the "Barclays Center" in Brooklyn, New York. This is a fantastic card and is arguably the strongest of the 3 "Takeover" events that have taken place the night before "Summerslam". There are a few members of the roster that I'm surprised to see omitted from the event; "The Velveteen Dream" who is on a great run and is a wildly different character from most of the "WWE" product. Eric Young, whilst most likely will be involved in the tag team match, is not involved on the actual card. Roderick Strong has had a great run against Bobby Roode of late and I'm surprised that he was not entered into the main event. Kassius Ohno is not on the card either which is a surprise as I would liked to have seen him face off against Hideo Itami. As always if you have any comments or thoughts on any of the card leave a comment below or follow me on social media:
1. Johnny Gargano Vs. Andrade Almas: This match has seemed to have come out of nowhere really. Johnny Gargano has been mostly quiet since the demise of "D.I.Y." a few months of ago. I think the plan for this event was more than likely to have Gargano to face off against his former partner, Tomasso Ciampa. It's a shame that the audience have been deprived of this match as Ciampa is injured for the foreseeable future as it would have been a much more entertaining match up. Almas seems to be struggling a little since his debut nearly a year and a half ago. It's not that he's not talented because he can go with the best of them. It's not that he's not a good character because he seems to be slipping into a Alberto Del Rio style character which is missing from "NXT". I think once all of the pieces fall into place for him he can be a great addition to either "RAW" or "Smackdown Live" perhaps in the impending "Superstar Shakeup" he may make the move. This match should be a great opener and entertaining enough however I think Gargano will come out on top against the under appreciated Almas.
2. Aleister Black Vs. Hideo Itami: This is another match that seems to have been thrown together hastily. Itami has been in a decent enough feud with Kassius Ohno recently and logic would have put the two together at the event. The only reason I can see this match being made is to give a bit more spotlight to the talented Aleister Black. This should be a fantastic match, I am more excited to watch this one than I am about the main event as I am a huge fan of Black. This match should be full of hard hits and submission wrestling that will be entertaining to watch. I would love to see a feud between the two come out of this match, perhaps furthering Itami as a top heel in NXT. I would like to see Black win clean but, I think he may win by DQ with Itami becoming frustrated and lashing out which has happened a few times of late.
3. NXT Tag Team Championship: The Authors Of Pain(C) Vs. Sanity: If you have read my previous preview blogs you will know I'm not the biggest fan of "The Authors Of Pain" as I feel they are very one dimensional and have been pushed a little too early. I understand they represent a new era and style for "NXT" , proving that "NXT" is more than pushing little guys and indie darlings but, they haven't really proven themselves as main event players. "Sanity" seem to be drifting a little bit. As a team they have great potential to be a massive deal within "NXT" and I feel that with the right amount of exposure they could be a faction that takes over "NXT" with Eric Young slipping into the main event and Nikki Cross, having proven herself as a fantastic athlete, would fit perfectly into the women's championship picture. This should be a great match, with a decent enough build behind it over the past few weeks peaking my interest a little more. I can't see "AOP" losing any time soon but, if they do "Sanity" would be a great force to be reckoned with in "NXT".
4. NXT Women's Championship: Asuka (C) Vs. Ember Moon: I feel like I've been hearing about this match for such a long time that I've lost a bit of interest in it now. Asuka has been a great women's champion, having some of the best matches on "NXT" television in the past few years. Ember Moon has been a little unlucky, having suffered an injury a few months ago that kept her out of the title match at the last "Takeover" event. I feel like she has lost a little momentum since then but, except for Ruby Riot, is the most credible replacement at the top of the "NXT" women's division. This should be a fantastic match with high drama from the get go. I would like to see Moon win the women's championship, not because I don't want to see Asuka as champion anymore but, simply for the fact I feel she has had just as many great matches as Asuka has. I think it's more than likely Asuka will retain by under handed means building a longer feud between the two.
5. NXT Championship: Bobby Roode (C) Vs. Drew McIntyre: The reign of Roode has been nothing short of glorious since he arrived in "NXT" a little over a year ago. Drew McIntyre arrived back at the "WWE" in a move that shocked the world on "Wrestlemania" weekend this year but, since his arrival he had been used sparingly which I found odd. Since then he has been thrust into the main event quite quickly. That's not saying he doesn't deserve it, you simply need to go and check out his runs in "EVOLVE" and "TNA/Impact/Global Force" to see just how good he is and how poorly he was used in his first "WWE" run. This should be a great main event match that will be more than entertaining to watch. The only issue is that I feel McIntyre is a natural born heel and is being wasted as a face. I feel if Roderick Strong gets involved in the main event I would like to see McIntyre turn and enter a feud with Strong going forward. What would be next for Roode ? well, in my opinion, one of a few things could happen. Roderick Strong and Drew McIntyre could enter into a feud involving Roode, Aleister Black, Hideo Itami or even Kassius Ohno could become credible threats or a long shot could be entering into a feud with the rumoured new signing, Adam Cole.
