NXT Takeover Chicago Preview and Predictions

Welcome one and all to my preview and prediction blog for NXT Takeover Chicago. This event came as a surprise to me when it was announced as the Takeover events usually only take place the weekends of the big four PPVs. Overall the card for this event is pretty good however, there are a few big names missing from the card namely Aleister Black, Drew McIntyre, Cillian Dane and Kassius Ohno. As always if you have any comments or thoughts on the event please leave a comment below or follow me on social media.

1. Roderick Strong Vs. Eric Young: This match was only announced on NXT television this week and has been pretty hastily thrown together. I love the recent videos in which Roderick Strong talked about his life outside of wrestling and his past, this will really cement him as one of the top good guys in NXT. Eric Young has done wonders as the leader of SaNity but, has been lacking in matches on live specials so this one will bring his ability to the forefront. This match, in my opinion, will be fantastic. I would think this may open the show and will really excite the audience. I fully expect interference from the other members of SaNity and maybe even No Way Jose to even the odds. I think this will more than likely lead to an ongoing feud between Roderick Strong and Eric Young, perhaps with Young causing Strong the NXT Championship at a later date. I think Strong will come out with the win on this occasion.

2. WWE UK Championship: Tyler Bate (C) Vs. Pete Dunne: I am really excited to see the first of, hopefully many, UK Championship defences on Takeover specials. As I mentioned on my post on PROGRESS Wrestling I think both Bate and Dunne are not only future WWE Superstars but, perhaps, even future WWE Champions. At 20 years old Tyler Bate not only became the first WWE UK Champion but, also one of the youngest champions in WWE history. Both men possess the ability to steal the show and I really believe this match will do just that. Expect a lot of heavy hits and obscure old school submission wrestling. Pete Dunne has the potential to be the biggest heel in the WWE and if rumours are to be believed it is only a matter of time before Dunne comes to the WWE full time. As much as I love Tyler Bate I think Dunne may come out on top as the new WWE UK Champion.

3. NXT Tag Team Championship Ladder Match: Authors Of Pain (C) Vs. D.I.Y: As of writing this this match has been put in doubt due to Tomasso Ciampa potentially being injured. I have a funny feeling this may be the last night for D.I.Y in NXT as it would be a little strange to keep having the same two teams face off in different match styles. I would love to see D.I.Y come to Smackdown Live or perhaps split them up and have Gargano on RAW and Ciampa on Smackdown Live. I think this will be a bit of a slow paced affair, I'm not the biggest fan of AOP and feel they were given a push a little too early. With that being said I expect them to retain the gold and dominate going forward.

4. NXT Womens Championship: Asuka (C) Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross: This match was originally a fatal 4 way and featured the now injured Ember Moon, who I believe was in line to end the unbeaten run of Asuka. This match features some of the best of an incredibly under rated womens division. Ruby riot came out of nowhere to appear on the last Takeover event and has really ran with the opportunity. Nikki Cross, in my opinion, has being under utilised since coming into NXT and deserves a lot more attention than she has been given. This match will be yet another example of why womens wrestling is so important just now. The story telling and action is just as good as the mens division and really deserves to be pushed to the top of the card. I honestly think Asuka will retain and wait until Ember Moon returns before dropping the Championship.

5. NXT Championship: Bobby Roode (C) Vs. Hideo Itami: To say Hideo Itami has been the victim of bad luck would be an understatement. As discussed on this weeks NXT episode, Itami has been part of the WWE for a little over 3 years and has been injured for a combined 2 of those. I honestly think if he had stayed injury free he would be on either RAW or Smackdown Live competing for a championship. Bobby Roode has been one of the most entertaining heels in recent memory and has taken NXT by storm. Impact Wrestling really dropped the ball with Roode. He could have been the top guy there quite easily, I would have loved to see a Roode Vs. EC3 feud. I think this match will be a good enough match, just not memorable. I don't expect Roode to lose the NXT Championship any time soon but, if he does lose I don't think Itami will hold the gold for long. I predict Roode for the win.
