Lazy Sunday Films Part 10

I am aware that I am posting this new Lazy Sunday Film post on a Wednesday morning. The reason for this is that I simply haven't had time to post due to work. This edition is about the wonderful independent horror/ghost story The Innkeepers. I purchased the film after stumbling upon a trailer during a marathon Youtube trailer session and was impressed with what I saw. Whilst most of you that read this blog on a semi regular basis will be aware that I love all things horror, blood, guts and gore I also love a good ghost story and the Innkeepers is just that.
Directed by Ti West (Hostel 3, Cabin Fever 2) the film sees two hotel workers, Claire (Sarah Paxton: Last House On The Left, Shark Night 3D) and Luke (Pat Healy) working the last weekend shift before the hotel closes it's doors forever. Both of the main characters have an interest in ghost hunting and seem to have both witnessed spooky happenings on different occasions. The mysterious former actress; Leanne Rease-Jones (Kelly McGillis, Top Gun) appears looking for a room and there the happening begin. There is one big twist in the second half of the film, but I will let you watch it instead of ruining it.
I really enjoyed this film for a number of reasons. The first is that it is separated into acts, which in my opinion is a great idea. This allows for the pacing of the film to flow quite well and I felt I wasn't being overwhelmed by too much happening all at once.

Sarah Paxton is fantastic in this film. I haven't been aware of much of her work in the past apart from the Last House On the Left remake. She has a much rounder character in The Innkeepers than her a Typical horror teenager in Last House On The Left.
I also like the subtlety of the scares in this film. Whilst modern horrors rely heavily on the shock and awe tactic The Innkeepers build a lot of suspense with rumour and story before the eventual scares in the 3rd act.
Overall I really enjoyed The Innkeepers a lot. I would recommend this film for any body who enjoys horror movies without a lot of gore and torture porn. Check out the trailer below:
