Whilst many reviews I have read for The Devil Inside have been, well not bad just not very good, I have to say whilst I enjoyed the film I didn't like it a lot. The film is shot in the now, in my opinion, overused found footage style (See Paranormal Activity et. all) it was not convincing enough to be a found footage style film. The story took a while to develop, however when it did the story telling side of the film seemed promising. There were parts of the film that were good, for instance the initial scenes with Isobellas' mother in the Vatican mental institution were genuinely intriguing. After that it all felt slightly laboured. There was the scenes that every exorcism film worth its' salt has; the conflict of church and conscience, the exorcism scene of a young girl and the eventual shock of the very obvious "twist" in the story. I have to say it would seem that the studio ran out of money after that as the end seemed very slap dash.
Overall The Devil Inside was an OK film, just OK not good nor bad. The initial promise of a good story was ruined by the lack of loose ends being tied up and the lack of a decently thought up end. A slightly disappointing addition to the exorcism genre. Check out the trailer below:
